Moving in Metairie
Not every Metairie move is the same move.
Metairie is a south shore move run from a north shore warehouse, and the bridge in between is the whole difference. The Causeway is just under twenty-four miles of two-lane bridge with nowhere to turn around, and it does not care that your closing is at noon.
We schedule around it instead of hoping. That means an early start on move day, a route decision made the night before, and a crew that is not sitting in the northbound backup with your dining room on the truck.
Getting there
The Causeway, and when not to use it
From our Mandeville warehouse the Causeway drops us into Metairie in about forty minutes with clear traffic — it is the direct route, and the toll is collected heading south. Truck rates run higher than the car rate, and we build that into the quote rather than adding it afterward.
When the bridge is closed for weather or fog, or when the timing is wrong, the alternative is the long way around through LaPlace on I-10 — roughly double the drive. We tell you which one we are taking and why, and it does not change the price we already quoted you.
What it actually takes

Every one of these has cost somebody a move day somewhere. We ask about them before we quote, not after we arrive.
Live oaks over narrow streets
Old Metairie, Metairie Club Gardens and Bonnabel Place have beautiful low canopy and streets that were never sized for a 26-foot box truck. We check clearance in advance and shuttle with a smaller truck where we have to — better than scraping a branch across someone’s roofline.
High-rise and condo buildings
The towers along Causeway Boulevard and the lakefront run on reserved elevators, loading dock windows and strict move hours. Miss the window and you are rescheduling. We book it with building management before the day.
Certificates of insurance
Most Metairie buildings will not let a crew past the lobby without a COI naming the building as additionally insured. We carry the coverage and send the certificate ahead — this is the single most common reason a move gets turned away at the door.
Elevated and rebuilt homes
Around Bucktown and closer to the lake, plenty of houses came back up on piers. Exterior stairs between the truck and the door change the crew count, and we price it that way from the start.
Tight driveways and no alley access
Much of Metairie is short driveways, no rear access and a neighbor who needs to get out at eight. We stage the truck to keep the street usable and get the ramp down where it will not block anyone in.
Northshore moves, both directions
A good share of our Metairie work is somebody crossing the lake in one direction or the other. Same crew loads and unloads on both ends, and if the two dates do not match up your things wait in our warehouse rather than on a truck.
